AMAZING Water Sports at the Lake of the Ozarks!

The Lake of the Ozarks has been voted the #1 Recreational Lake in the Country! One of the largest reasons is because we have some amazing activities for you and your family to enjoy while you're here! On the land we have great hiking trails through the beautiful state parks around the Lake. We also have biking trails, horseback riding, camping, floating and much more! What sets us apart from most other vacation areas, though, is all of the opportunities you have to enjoy our beautiful Lake! Here are a few different ways you and your family can enjoy a great time on the water.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Paddle boarding has been around since the 60's, but it's only picked up popularity in the last 15 years. The sport originated in Hawaii when the beach boys would stand on their longboards and paddle out to get a better view of the surf. Stand up paddle boarding is the fastest growing sport in the world, partly because you don't have to have a surf to do it! This sport can be enjoyed on oceans, lakes and even rivers. When you are planning your vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can incorporate this fun sport into your trip with Wake Effects in Osage Beach. You can rent all of the equipment, and they even offer paddleboard yoga classes! You can call them at 573-348-2100 to get more information.

WakeBoarding

Wakeboarding is like a combination of snowboarding, waterskiing and skateboarding. Like paddleboarding, wakeboarding is fairly new as well. Like water skiing, the rider is towed from behind the boat, but instead of skis, you will wear a single board with stationary non-release bindings for each foot. The floating boards generally shorter and wider than snowboards, as well being convex instead of concave . The thing that makes wakeboarding stand apart from water skiing is that wakebaording gets you up in the air! The short flexible board allows radical jumps on a level never seen before! This would make a fun activity for your next family get away at the Lake of the Ozarks! Wake Effects also offers lessons at your place or theirs.

Water Skiing

Water skiing is accomplished with either one ski, two ski's or even barefoot! It is relatively simple, but may take a few tries for you to get the hang of it. Like wakeboarding, you'll be pulled behind a boat going at least 20 miles per hour. The faster the boat, the faster the skier, and the speed also translates to new tricks and maneuverability. The sport's origins are anchored to two teenagers in Minnesota, around 1922. The brother and sister duo figured that if you could ski on snow, you could ski on water! About 25 years later, the first man reported to meet the challenge of barefoot skiing, Dick Pope Jr., tried his hand at it, and succeeded! When you're looking for recreation at the Lake of the Ozarks, this would be a fun challenge. You could even try to master the barefoot skiing too!

Boat Tubing

Tubing is a very popular activity on the Lake, as it is one of the easiest water sports you can try! Unlike other water sports, it's appropriate for all ages. Some of the other water sports may require the boat to travel at extremely fast speeds, but tubing allows passengers to travel at the speed that they are the most comfortable with. When you are spending your time at the Lake, we definitely recommend this family-friendly activity!

The Lake of the Ozarks is a great place to spend time with your family and try new water sports that you don't always have access to at home. While you're planning your vacation activities, remember to book a Lake of the Ozarks Condo with us. We have over 45 vacation units, and because we are the best vacation rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks, we book up fast! Be kind to yourself and save some precious vacation hours by hiring out your grocery shopping.

There are so many fun things happening this weekend and if you're vacationing with us we are so excited to have you! Here are 7 fun facts about the Fourth of July to start the weekend off.

1. On the 4th of July, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental congress.

2. The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men representing the 13 colonies. The moment the declaration was signed it marked the beginning of all-out war against the British.

3. Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

4. Over an estimated 150 million hot dogs are consumed in the United States each Independence Day.

5.  The 13 stars on the American flag were arranged in a circle originally to represent equality between the original thirteen colonies. There were several versions of the early flag, including one with the stars arranged in vertical lines. The "Betsy Ross Flag," which depicts the stars, in a circle was the most popular.

6. Benjamin Franklin supposedly wanted the wild turkey to be the national bird, but was outvoted by both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, who chose the bald eagle. The bird of prey native only to North America became the official bird of the United States of America.

7. Ironically, though the United States was born on July Fourth, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4th, 1826.
